What we work on

Skills that make daily life easier

The exact training plan depends on the individual dog. These are common goals—not a promise that every dog should follow the same script.

Come when called

Build attention, response, distance, and reliability progressively around distractions.

Loose-leash walking

Create calmer movement, clearer leash communication, and more enjoyable walks.

Sit, down, and place

Teach useful positions with duration, distance, and distractions worked in gradually.

Household manners

Doorways, visitors, meals, furniture rules, settling, boundaries, and daily routines.

Impulse control

Help the dog think through excitement instead of reacting to every opportunity.

Confidence

Use thoughtful exposure and achievable challenges to help uncertain dogs cope.

Reactivity support

Assess triggers, safety, communication, handling, and realistic improvement goals.

Owner communication

Teach timing, markers, rewards, structure, equipment, and what to practice next.

Dog training questions

Choose with confidence

How do I choose the right program?

Start with the behavior you want to change, your dog’s history, and how involved you want to be during training. A local trainer will review program fit before enrollment.

Does Board & Train replace owner training?

No. The trainer creates the foundation, but the owner transfer and home practice are what make the result part of everyday life.

Can you help with behavior problems?

Program fit depends on the dog, health, history, severity, household, and safety needs. Disclose aggression, bites, guarding, fear, and reactivity before enrollment so the trainer can make a responsible recommendation.

Are all Operation New Leash trainers veterans?

Operation New Leash is building a network of veteran-owned local dog-training businesses. Each approved owner completes ONL training, readiness, safety, and business requirements.
